The Trumpet Consort serves the trumpet students at Mississippi State as their own ensemble of "like-instruments." Directed by Michael Huff, this group rehearses once a week and serves as both a performance group and a lab experience for the trumpet students.
Trumpet ensemble music written or arranged specifically for large numbers of trumpets is explored and performed. Fundamental trumpet playing skills and section playing abilities are also fostered. Sight-reading abilities are relied upon heavily and developed as a large amount of varied material is covered over the course of each semester. Orchestral music is also utilized to learn positive section playing abilities.
This group utilizes rotated seating so each player, regardless of abilities, experiences everything from playing low parts to high and each member of this group learns positive skills involving interaction with other players.
