These are some of the essential things to accomplish before entering Mississippi State University as a music student.
- Take the ACT spring of your junior year, and again your senior year if necessary.
- Request general information from the department and the university as you begin to decide if MSU is a good fit for you.
- The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) should be submitted as soon as possible after January 1 for students entering the following Fall. MSU’s Federal School Code is 002423. Go to www.sfa.msstate.edu for more information about the FAFSA and other Mississippi State University financial aid options.
- Request admissions materials and fill out the on-line application form for the University at admissions.msstate.edu (all students must submit a $25 application fee). Freshmen applying by February 1, and transfer students applying by April 1 will automatically be considered for University scholarships.
- Schedule an audition with the music department. Contact the Music Department Office to make arrangements. Those who audition earlier will find that more money is still available for scholarships. Plan to come to campus for an audition early in the academic year before you plan to enter college.
- The final application deadline for freshmen and transfer students is August 1st for the fall semester. However, to be considered for scholarships, applications must be received by February 1, for freshman and April 1, for transfer students.
- Learn about your housing options. Students at MSU live in the dormitories, the honors dorms, in off-campus apartments, and sometimes commute from home. To learn more about on-campus housing go to housing.msstate.edu. If you plan to live on campus, be sure to begin the housing application process early, as you will be given greater preference in hall and roommate assignments.
- Be sure your immunizations are up to date before you arrive at MSU in the fall. See the Student Health Center immunization requirements for more information.
- Practice over the summer so that you are playing and singing your best when it comes time for fall auditions for placement within ensembles.
- The first week of school, contact your private studio teacher to set a time for lessons for the semester.
