Originally from Frankfort, Kentucky, Dr. Scott is a recent graduate of Louisiana State University (LSU) where he earned a Doctor of Musical Arts in Trumpet Performance with a Minor in Music Theory. Dr. Scott also served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant at LSU, where he assisted in teaching undergraduates in the trumpet studio, and performed with the graduate brass quintet. His academic training also includes a Master of Music in Trumpet Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Colorado at Boulder, a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Kentucky, and a Certificate in Baroque Trumpet from the University of Kentucky.
As a teacher, Dr. Scott has served on faculty at the two oldest summer music programs in the United States, the Interlochen Arts Camp and the Stephen Collins Foster Music Camp, where he has taught students from around the world including Switzerland, China, Poland, and Macedonia. He has been invited to present masterclasses at universities across the United States, including Columbus State University, the University of South Alabama, Mississippi State University, the University of Mississippi, McNeese State University, Alcorn State University, Southeastern Louisiana University, and the University of Louisiana at Monroe. Dr. Scott’s students have been invited to compete at the National Trumpet Competition, played in honors ensembles such as the Louisiana Youth Orchestra, Central Kentucky Youth Orchestras, and all-state ensembles, and have been accepted into collegiate music programs and awarded scholarships.
As a performer, Dr. Scott has played with the Monroe Symphony Orchestra, the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra, the Mobile Symphony Orchestra, and the Mountainside Baroque Orchestra. Dr. Scott is a current performing member of the Lagniappe Brass Quintet, the faculty brass quintet of the University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM). Additionally, he has appeared as a guest soloist with both the ULM Wind Ensemble and ULM Brass Ensemble. In addition to his orchestral, chamber, and solo work, Dr. Scott maintains an active freelance schedule as a jazz musician.
Dr. Scott is a recipient of the International Trumpet Guild’s annual Young Artist Award, and has been named a Kentucky Colonel by Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear; the highest title of honor bestowed by the Governor of Kentucky. Dr. Scott’s primary teachers include Vince DiMartino, Jason Dovel, Ryan Gardner, Justin Bartels, Brian Shaw, Matthew Vangjel, and Joseph Van Fleet.
