Katherine (Katie) Johnson, piano instructor for MSU, has been teaching music in her home town of Starkville, Mississippi for 9 years. She holds a bachelor's degree in Music Education from Mississippi State University and a master's degree in Piano Pedagogy from Louisiana State University. While at MSU, Katherine studied with Dr. Rosangela Sebba and Dr. Jacqueline Edwards-Henry. Her graduate studies at LSU were under the guidance and influence of Dr. Pamela Pike and Greg Sioles. While developing a private piano studio in Starkville, Mrs. Johnson served as choral director for the Starkville Homeschool Music Coop. for two years, taught various children's piano classes, including the Dawg Daze summer camp music classes at MSU, worked with children's choirs at local churches, and served as the worship music director for her church. At LSU and MSU, she has taught collegeālevel group piano courses, adult leisure piano courses, and music theory classes. In service to local communities, Mrs. Johnson has judged MMTA (Mississippi Music Teacher Association) auditions in different areas of Mississippi and AMTA events in Alabama, as well as judging students at Festival for the Columbus Music Study Club (affiliate of the National Federation of Music Clubs).
Mrs. Johnson now keeps a private piano studio of around 35 students in her home and continues to teach classes and private students for MSU. She is currently the President for the Golden Triangle Music Forum, the local affiliate of Mississippi Music Teachers Association. Mrs. Johnson is passionate about the impact of Golden Triangle Music Forum on the community of Starkville and the legacy left by the teachers who have gone before her.
