Dr. Wade Irvin teaches Applied Saxophone, Saxophone Ensembles & Woodwind class at Mississippi State.  He retired from the University of Mississippi in 2013 after 20 years of teaching bassoon & saxophone, chamber ensembles, flute/single/double reed methods and playing bassoon in the faculty woodwind quintet. Prior to coming to Ole Miss, Dr. Irvin taught studio woodwinds at Mississippi State University (6 yrs.), and served as assistant director of bands/woodwinds at University of Mississippi (1 yr.), Northeast Mississippi Junior College (5 yrs.) and Itawamba Junior College (3 yrs).  

Since retirement, he has served at Northwest Mississippi Community College (Woodwinds: 2014-15); University of Memphis  (2015-16: visiting professor of bassoon); and Blue Mountain College(Woodwinds: 2017-18). 

Dr. Irvin holds the BS (Music Education) & MM (Woodwind Performance) degrees from Auburn University & the DMA (Bassoon Performance) from the University of Alabama. He has written a tenor clef primer called Tenor Clef (TrevCo-Varner Music).

As a bassoonist, Dr. Irvin has performed with the following symphonies: Mississippi, Meridian (MS), North Mississippi Symphony Orchestra (Tupelo, MS), & Memphis. His clinics include presentations for the International Double Reed Society and Mississippi Bandmasters' State Clinic. He is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda.
