The Piano and Its Perspectives - Broadcast
The premier of MSU and Brazilian and Portuguese institutions and universities partnership will be this coming Sunday, April 18, at 3:00 pm MS, 4:00 NYC, 5:00 pm in Brazil and 8:00 pm in Portugal.

This project is organized by the School of Music and Theater and Digital Department at Federal University of Goiás-Brazil with the objective to bring to the entire community, information about culture and social impact. Every week, on Fridays, at 5 pm, a special guest from Brazil and the world; 3:00 pm in MS. The MSU premier will have a special event on Sunday, April 18, as a kick off of the partnership.
The interviewees will be:
David Dubal has given piano recitals and masterclasses around the world, and has been adjudicator for the most prestigious international piano competitions (including the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition). He recorded several CDs together with pianist Stanley Waldoff released by Musical Heritage Society, and three albums were remastered and released on CD by Arkiv. In 2013, Dubal participated in the film Dutch Nostalgia: the Music of Wim Statius Müller, commenting on the songs of the composer, who was his teacher in Ohio. Dubal taught at the Juilliard School from 1983 to 2018, and the Manhattan School of Music from 1994 to 2015.
Dubal has written several books available at amazon: Piano Art, Nights with Horowitz, Conversations with Menuhin, Keyboard Reflections, Conversations with John Carlos Martins, Remembering Horowitz, and The Essential Canon of Classical Music (an encyclopedic guide of prominent composers). He also wrote and presented the Emmy-winning documentary The Golden Age of Piano produced by Peter Rosen.
Stanley Waldoff began his piano studies at the age of six. Two years later, he made his professional debut playing a concert with an orchestra. At the age of thirteen, he won the coveted Stillman-Kelley Award, which helped him launch his piano career with several concerts. This was followed immediately by three appearances with the New Orleans Symphony, which were broadcast on National Radio. Four years later, after studies with Istvan Nadas, Dr. Waldoff entered the Juilliard School on a full scholarship, later being a student of pianist Martin Canin. After receiving his bachelor's and master's degrees from Juilliard, Waldoff studied his Doctorate at Columbia University, graduating in 1970. He was later a resident pianist and Associate Director of the Rhode Island School in Providence. The three CDs recorded with David Dubal were originally recorded for the Musical Heritage Society and later remastered and released by Arkiv. He retired as Professor Emeritus at the University of Southern Mississippi, where he taught for thirty-four years. Stanley Waldoff is a Steinway artist.
