New Audio Production Minor Launching at MSU
Mississippi State University (MSU) is proud to announce the launch of its new Minor in Audio Production, designed to equip students with essential skills for careers in music technology, recording, and audio engineering. The program combines hands-on training with theoretical knowledge to prepare students for success in today’s fast-paced audio industry.
The Audio Production minor consists of 19 credit hours and offers a diverse curriculum, blending foundational courses in music theory and ear training with cutting-edge instruction in music technology and business practices. Students will gain experience in recording, mixing, and mastering techniques while exploring the creative and ethical dimensions of the music industry.
Program Highlights:
- MU 1213 Music Theory I: Provides a foundational understanding of music structure, harmony, and composition.
- MU 1312 Ear Training I: Develops critical listening skills essential for identifying pitch, rhythm, and tonal nuances.
- MU 1553 Computer Skills for Musicians: Introduces students to software and digital tools essential for modern music production.
- MU 2573 Microphone Techniques: Covers microphone types, placement strategies, and recording environments to capture high-quality audio.
- MU 3543 Music Business & Ethics: Explores the business aspects of the music industry, including contracts, copyright, and ethical practices.
- MU 3553 Audio Production 1: Provides hands-on experience with recording and production techniques in a professional studio setting.
- MU 3563 Audio Production 2: Advances students’ skills in mixing, mastering, and post-production workflows.
